New Turf Field at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park — A Game Changer for the Raiders

Airdrie's dream turf field is officially a reality. The City of Airdrie unveiled the new artificial turf field at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park — and for the Raiders, it means a true home-field advantage deep into October and November.
A Field Built for Friday Night Lights
For the first time in Airdrie's history, the city hosted a Friday night lights football game under the new stadium lighting. The Raiders now have access to a brilliantly lit, all-weather surface that extends the season well past when natural grass fields typically shut down.
"It's crazy to see your dream happen. Over five years ago, we started this idea. Fast forward to today, we're going to be playing our first games." — Chris Glass, President of the Airdrie Field Turf Project
What It Means for Raiders Players
The new turf gives the Raiders approximately 615 additional hours of field use each year by extending availability into the evening hours during spring and fall. That means more reps, more practice time, and a consistent, high-quality surface when it matters most — playoff season in October and November.
How It Came Together
The project was endorsed by Council in July 2023 after an extensive feasibility study. Ed Eggerer Athletic Park was chosen to make use of existing infrastructure — bleachers, parking, and washrooms. Funding came from the Canada Community Building Fund ($5.6 million), the Alberta Community Partnership Program ($300,000), and a Community Recreation and Culture Funding Grant from Rocky View County ($277,500).
"Many sporting groups have been awaiting the opening of this artificial turf field and we are proud that Airdrie can now offer this amazing amenity for our community," said Mayor Peter Brown.
Come See It for Yourself
The park is located at 800 East Lake Boulevard NE, adjacent to East Lake Regional Park at the northeast end of Genesis Place. Come out and watch the Raiders take the field under the lights this fall.
